PENDLETON โ€“ The city of Pendleton has changed the location of the fireworks display at 10 p.m. July 4. They will be launched from the north side of the Pendleton Round-Up Grounds between the arena and the Umatilla River.

Because of this change, the Pendleton River Parkway will be closed from Southwest 18th Street to Roy Raley Park near Southwest 10th Street for the launching. Roy Raley Park will be open for people to watch the display. There will be no public access to the Round-Up Grounds itself.

Fireworks have been lit from the vacant lot southwest of the Pendleton Walmart in past years. However, there were fire and safety concerns due to combustible materials in the fire safety zone that prompted the relocation. The city issued an apology for any inconvenience this causes.

Pendletonโ€™s Fourth of July celebrations also include the VFW Independence Day Parade at 10 a.m. It begins at Pendleton City Hall on Southwest Dorion Avenue to Main Street and then down Southwest Court Avenue to Roy Raley Park. The Fourth of July Community Celebration at Roy Raley will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
