PENDLETON – Oregon state lawmakers are heading to Salem this week for Legislative Days. It’s the last time they’ll gather before the 2024 session begins on Feb. 5. Pendleton Mayor John Turner says the legislators from this area have been made aware of the city’s top priorities for funding from the state. Topping the list is housing development.
“We need to build a road out on the east side of town on what we call Goad Road to open up that 250 acres out there,” he said. “That is our number one priority for the city. That’s a $5 million ask.”
That road is considered essential to developing the Goad-Rees property for housing, as it will provide a route for infrastructure to the undeveloped land.
Turner said the city’s second priority is supporting the Pendleton Children’s Center’s quest for more state funding as it tries to address the shortage of daycare options in the Round-Up City. Turner says the city also considers another youth-oriented project important.
“If you asked us to have a third one, we would certainly want to support the regional sports complex that’s being pushed by the Round-Up City Development Corporation,” he said.
