PENDLETON – Gravel pickup began this week in the McKay and Sherwood neighborhoods of Pendleton. Public Works Director Bob Patterson is urging residents to be on the lookout for signage.
“Our crews are putting out signs to be moved ahead of the sweeper to get folks to understand where the sweeper is going to pass through so they don’t park along the curb line,” he said.
The city rents a mechanical sweeper for the gravel removal. It is able to pick up the gravel more effectively than the vacuum sweeper that the city owns. It takes four to six weeks to remove the gravel with the mechanical sweeper while it takes the vacuum sweeper eight to 12 weeks.
Patterson said crews will be removing gravel from around the city’s schools during Spring Break.
