SALEM – The city of Pendleton has been awarded two grants for $35,000 each from the Oregon Department of Energy’s (ODOE) Early Compliance Action and Planning Program. The funding is to help building owners offset the costs of early planning activities associated with complying with energy benchmarking and other standards.

The grant will help fund energy audits at both the Pendleton Convention Center and Pendleton City Hall. The audits evaluate the state of the buildings, test building energy consumption, and outline recommendations to make the facilities more energy efficient.

The city worked with Ameresco, Inc. to obtain the grants. Assistant Public Works Director Kyle Willman said the company helped the city write the applications. He added that being awarded funding for the energy audits could help the city obtain more ODOE funding for future projects recommended by the audits.

“This support helps us meet new building performance standards and improve building efficiency,” Willman said.
