PENDLETON โ€“ Pendleton Fire & Ambulance now has two assistant chiefs. City Manager Robb Corbett says that Brian Hemphill of Pilot Rock was sworn in at last weekโ€™s city council meeting to be assistant chief of operations for the department.

โ€œThe chambers were full with supporters,โ€ he said. โ€œObviously, he has a lot of support and itโ€™s good to see so many people out to support him in his new position.โ€

Chief Tony Pierotti said that having Hemphill in that role will free up Assistant Chief Valorie Tomren to focus on the departmentโ€™s community risk reduction division. She is the fire marshal, does fire inspections, handles public education and the community health program.

Hemphill will direct and manage the departmentโ€™s operations and training as well as keep tabs on facility and equipment maintenance. He will also oversee disaster preparedness and safety. In addition he will be in charge of coordinating the reserve program for Pendleton Fire & Ambulance.
