PENDLETON – The Pendleton Development Commission will consider approving funds to pay for security lights to be installed on businesses and residences in the urban renewal district.

“The PDC directed the city manager to come back to us at our meeting in January with a fully-detailed program,” Mayor McKennon McDonald said.

The area that would be eligible for the grants is the downtown corridor from Southwest Sixth Street to Southeast Sixth Street. City staff is recommending setting aside funds of up to $5,000 to pay for security lights to be installed. The funds would come from the PDC’s budget for safety and security in the district.

Staff suggested the work should be done by a licensed contractor and the grant amounts should be for $250 for single-family residences and $500 for multi-family units and businesses.

The report also states the concept has the support of Pendleton Police Chief Chuck Byram. The Pendleton Development Commission is comprised of the mayor and the Pendleton City Council.
