Pendleton City Council will tackle homeless issue

PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council holds its regular meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. and is considering changes to city ordinances regarding shelter and rules for exclusion from city property.

The city council is asked to declare both of those ordinance changes emergencies. That means that there will be a public hearing on them at this meeting, instead of waiting until the next regular meeting for the second reading of the proposed changes to take place.

The council is also considering declaring an emergency and holding a public hearing on proposed changes to the city’s burn ban ordinance. The agenda, containing links to the three emergency declarations, can be found at City of Pendleton – Meeting Information.

Also, on its consent agenda, the council is hearing a request to boost City Manager Robb Corbett’s salary by 10 percent. Normally, Corbett is given a cost of living adjustment, but this year the council asked the human resources department to determine whether his salary is in line with other city managers in cities of comparable populations. It was determined that Corbett’s salary was 14 percent below average.
