PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council will consider charges for state-mandated curbside recycling at its meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. The council is expected to vote on the matter at this meeting according to city staff.
The Oregon Legislature has enacted a law requiring commingled curbside recycling for residents in all cities with populations of 4,000 or more. Pendleton Sanitary Service, Inc. (PSSI) is asking that residential customers pay an additional $8 a month for the curbside container which will be picked up every other week. PSSI is also asking for a charge of $24 a month for multi-family complexes.
All PSSI residential customers and multi-family complexes of five or more dwellings will be required to pay for the service. They are not mandated to use it if they so choose. The legislation mandating the service is Oregon Senate Bill 582 was passed into law in 2021.
Also at the meeting, Tony Nelson will be sworn in as police chief and Tyler Reddington will be sworn in as lieutenant.
