PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council meets at 7 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday) and one of the items on the consent agenda is to assign names to the seven breakout rooms used for meetings in Pendleton City Hall.
Each of the rooms will be named for a person or entity that has played a significant role in the shaping of Pendleton. The city sought input from Altrusa International of Pendleton, the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Happy Canyon, the Pendleton Linebackers Club, Pendleton Round-Up, and Pendleton Rotary.
Scott Fairley Room
Fairley is described as “a wonderful life-long resident of Pendleton who was a champion of the community and Eastern Oregon.”
Ranchers Room
This is termed a salute to the city’s “legacy of cattle, sheep, and wheat ranching that is palpable in the fabric of Pendleton.”
Anna Minthorn Wannasay Room
This honors the CTUIR member “who co-wrote the original script for Happy Canyon, a gifted singer, and proponent of education for tribal members.”
Oregon Trail Room
“Pendleton was a crucial stop on the Oregon Trail.”
Triple Nickels Room
This honors the all-Black paratroop platoon that trained in Pendleton.
Heather Corey Room
She is described as a Pendleton High School athlete, queen of the Round-Up and first woman director of the Round-Up Board.
Tulilpa Room Places of little cliffs was the original name of the Pendleton area used in the Umatilla language.
