PENDLETON – The Pendleton Chamber of Commerce has responded to allegations of financial crimes committed against it by a former employee. As Elkhorn Media Group reported Tuesday, the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office has forwarded that case to the Oregon Department of Justice Financial Crimes Division. The allegations were brought to the attention of the Pendleton Police Department, which launched the initial investigation.
The full statement from the Chamber of Commerce is:
The Pendleton Chamber of Commerce is aware of the recent media coverage regarding an alleged financial matter that has been referred to the Oregon Department of Justice for review.
We want to be transparent with our Chamber members, partners, and the public that this is an ongoing investigation. While this situation is unfortunate, the Chamber is fully cooperating with the Oregon Department of Justice and any other appropriate authorities. We believe it is important that this process be allowed to proceed thoroughly and independently.
It is important to note that the individual referenced in the investigation has not been employed by the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce for the past eight months. During that time, the Chamber has continued to operate responsibly and effectively, serving our members and community without disruption.
Our current staff and leadership remain fully focused on advancing the Chamber’s mission. Day-to-day operations continue as usual, and we are proud of the professionalism and dedication of our team as they support local businesses and economic development.
In addition, the Chamber is proactively reviewing and updating its internal financial policies, procedures, and governing bylaws to strengthen oversight and accountability. These steps are being taken to ensure transparency, protect our members’ trust, and prevent anything like this from occurring in the future.
We appreciate the continued support of our members and the community. For questions regarding Chamber programs or services, members are encouraged to contact the Chamber directly.
