Pendleton backs river housing project

PENDLETON – The city has decided what it will do with the two houses it owns along the Umatilla River near Backfire Station. The Pendleton Development Commission has awarded Baker Investment Group a grant to demolish the homes and develop the property.

“It will be a residential facility right up against the River Walk overlooking the river,” City Manager Robb Corbett said.

The PDC issued a memorandum of understanding about the development and the city has signed a memorandum of agreement to contribute the land for development. Corbett said Randy Baker is proposing a multi-million dollar housing development.

“Some people might remember the River Quarter plan that envisioned development along the river corridor,” Corbett said. “This is something that is straight out of that plan.
