PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council is preparing for the 2025 session of the Oregon Legislature. It begins on Jan. 15, 2025. Because it is an odd year, the legislators will also be preparing the budget for the biennium that begins July 1 of next year.

The League of Oregon Cities asks its members to list the issues that are among the most important. Pendleton City Council President McKennon McDonald has a list.

“Behavioral health enhancement, continued addiction policy reform, shelter and homeless response, infrastructure funding, and looking into marijuana tax reform,” she said are Pendleton’s top priorities.

LOC will hear from all of its member cities and prioritize based on the lists they receive.

However, those aren’t Pendleton’s only projects for which the city will be lobbying.

“Locally, I think continuing to look … for funding coming into the community for projects that we have with Blue Mountain Community College, Pendleton Children’s Center, building on the partnerships we already have in place because we’ve received funding to get the ball rolling or projects started, but there needs to more sustained funding on some of those,” McDonald said.
