SALEM – Oregon Housing and Community Services has freed up a record amount of funding during this month’s Housing Stability Council meeting. Two projects in Umatilla County are among the beneficiaries.
One of those is the Wildflower project being mounted by Chrisman Development which will be behind the Pendleton Square Neighborhood on Tutuilla Road, according to interim public affairs official Connor McDonnell. He said that over $11 million will be earmarked for the construction of 80 units to replace affordable housing lost during the Umatilla River flood.
Pendleton City Manager Robb Corbett expressed excitement that the grant had been announced.
“It’s much needed,” Corbett said. “We’ve been working really hard with the state and Chrisman Development. It’s thrilling that the project was funded, and I think we’re going to be breaking ground here shortly.”
An estimated $4.1 million will be earmarked for Moorehouse Apartments in Hermiston. McDonnell said that is a proposal to build five two- to three-story buildings.
“This funding could not have come at a better time,” OHCS director Margaret Salazar said. “Housing is a basic human need, and I am grateful to Gov. Kate Brown and the legislature for these resources. Going forward, thousands of Oregon families will have a safe, dry, and affordable place to call home.”
