LA GRANDE — (Release from the La Grande Police Department) At approximately 9:06 p.m. on April 5, 2026, officers and medical personnel responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Island Avenue near Legacy Ford.
Upon arrival, officers learned that the driver was traveling to work when a male pedestrian, dressed in dark clothing, stepped into the roadway near the DMV. The driver, who was operating within the posted speed limit, was unable to see the pedestrian in time to avoid the collision due to the pedestrian’s dark attire.
The pedestrian sustained head injuries but was conscious and walking when officers made contact with him. He was advised to accompany medics to the emergency room for further evaluation and care. He was transported to the hospital for additional treatment.
Witness statements confirmed that the driver was traveling at a safe speed and that the pedestrian was difficult to see prior to entering the roadway. After officers completed their investigation at the scene, the driver was released.
