PENDLETON – The Pendleton Development Commission meets on the third Tuesday of the month, but the group held an early meeting this week to get the ball rolling on street projects within the city’s urban growth boundary. Those projects are being paid for with PDC funding. The bid was awarded to Nelson Construction of Walla Walla.
Public Works Director Bob Patterson said the commission met early so the work could begin as soon as possible.
“We’ve got approximately nine city blocks on various streets within the urban renewal district for $1.27 million,” Patterson said.
Originally the plan was to have more projects, but it was determined that some of the streets in need of reconstruction will first need work done to the water and sewer infrastructure. Those are being delayed until next year. The work won’t stop there, though.
“City staff put together a total budget with the Pendleton Development Commission of about $6.2 million to $6.4 million over the next two to three years,” Patterson said.
This does not include the city’s slurry seal, crack seal, and road reconstruction projects that are outside of the urban renewal district.
Other street repair projects are already going on by the Oregon Department of Transportation. Patterson said ODOT pays to repair all state highways like Southgate, Westgate, and Northgate as well as all of the city’s main one-way streets.
