PENDLETON – The Pendleton Development Commission is considering massive changes in the way it operates to fund urban renewal projects. At its meeting Tuesday, the commissioners decided a work session is needed to discuss the details surrounding new granting processes, grant consolidation, and banking methods.
“It’s complicated enough to where we’re going to meet next Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at a PDC work session, just to discuss this,” Mayor John Turner said.
The changes include a total rewrite of the method used to score grant requests.
The PDC is also considering having one grant project instead of three. Currently there are façade grants, second-story grants, and whole building grants. Turner said it’s been suggested that applicants fill out one form that could be applicable to any or all of those three. The changes are being proposed by the PDC Advisory Committee, and Turner said the work session next week will be valuable for that committee to determine what directions to take.
“I would expect for it to come back before the PDC in mid-December to early January,” Turner said.
