PENDLETON – There are two old homes adjacent to Backfire Station that are in ill repair. Referred to as city officials as the fire house homes, there’s a plan that could be funded by the Pendleton Development Commission to demolish them.
Mayor John Turner said a company known as Baker Development wants to develop townhouses on the property. The homes, he said, are over 100 years old. One is a one-bedroom house and the other has two bedrooms.
“We would give him that property, make him a grant through the PDC, and then he would build probably four town homes there right on the river walk,” Turner said.
Turner said the city would benefit because that development would them pay property taxes. As city-owned land it is currently not on the tax rolls.
