PENDLETON – The Pendleton Development Commission is committing $1.5 million in urban development funds to completely repave Southeast Third Street from the railroad tracks to the river.
Mayor John Turner said water work is already underway in that area. The question was whether to deplete the PDC’s urban renewal dollars or take the cost out of the street or general fund, thus delaying other projects.
“We finally decided that we could go ahead and do it,” Turner said. “It would pretty much tie us up with new projects downtown. We won’t be able to take on any more new ones.”
The vote on using the urban renewal funds to re-pave Southeast Third Street was 6 to 3. Turner said it will probably be the PDC’s last street renewal project in the downtown area.
