PENDLETON – The Pendleton Development Commission meets at 6 p.m. today (Tuesday). That will be followed by a meeting of the Pendleton City Council at 7 p.m. The council serves as the development commission on issues regarding urban renewal.
At the PDC meeting, commissioners will be updated on outstanding building grants. These include Hotel Pendleton (formerly the Marigold), the old city hall, the Odd Fellows building apartments and storefronts, the Oak Hotel, and the 1904 Hotel (part of the Sisters building). The commission will also elect a chair and vice chair for the coming year.
A public hearing is planned for the council meeting to discuss changes to the city’s dog ordinances. The amendments would allow dogs to run free within the dog park. It would also address dog owners who release their canines into the dog park and then leave the premises.
Under new business on the agenda, City Manager Robb Corbett is asking the council to consider hiring a second assistant fire chief. Doing that would cost $75,000 in 2025 and $165,000 in fiscal year 2026. His proposal would be funded by amending the pay-back period for the department’s ladder truck.
Corbett said the position had been suggested during the 2025 fiscal year budget cycle, but was cut from the proposed budget. He said that calls for service for Pendleton Fire & Ambulance continue to trend upward, placing a strain on leadership and management.
“I have agreed to seek funding for this position that would allow a stronger management team that could work together toward long-term solutions which we hope would result in additional resources for more staffing or efficiencies in the current system,” Corbett wrote in the report to the council.
The meetings will be in council chambers at Pendleton City Hall. Virtually, they are on Zoom. The meeting ID is 878 3894 4257 and the pass code is 040843.
