PRAIRIE CITY – The Prairie City Ranger District and Malheur Watershed Council recently received the 2024 Award of Excellence in Riparian Management from the Western Division of the American Fisheries Society.
According to the Forest Service, “the award recognizes the Summit Creek Floodplain Restoration Project. Historical land practices altered the stream to be too deep and straight and water could no longer reach the floodplain. Instead, water rushed off the landscape without enough time to build and maintain important streamside habitats. The reconnection will provide a more dynamic and resilient ecosystem that supports fish and wildlife species throughout the year.”
