PASCO – The Pasco Police Department released video Wednesday that includes information related to an officer-involved shooting that occurred on March 13 around Sixth Avenue and West Lewis Street. The video includes the initial 911 call and police body cam footage.
The incident began at 11:40 a.m. when a 911 caller reported two adult men fighting in the street. Pasco officers arrived on the scene and found Cortez Palafox, 42, of Pasco laying on the ground with apparent stab wounds. An officer rendered medical aid to Palafox who died of his injuries at the scene.
Officers Jasen McClintock and Jeremy Jones contact the suspect, Gabriel Artz, also of Pasco, who was armed with a knife. Artz charged at officers and was shot, stopping his aggression. Officers immediately rendered medical aid. Artz was transported to a local hospital by ambulance and later died of his injuries.
The Special Investigations Unit took control of the investigation shortly after the officer-involved shooting occurred.
