KIMBERLY – John Day Fossil Beds National Monument’s Chief of Interpretation, Rita Garcia, was on KJDY’s Coffee Time recently to inform listeners that much of the park is open to enjoy all hours of the day, year-round:

“The buildings close, but everything else—the outside bathrooms, the pull outs, the roadsides, and most especially, the trails, all stay open 24/7. So, if you’re thinking, ‘Hey, it’s a little late in the day and the building is closed.’ That’s alright, because you can still walk down the trail to the John Day River; you can go collect apples; you can go enjoy the Painted Hills at sunset, which everybody loves to do.”

Garcia said the park has some of the best night sky viewing around.
