WALLA WALLA – Construction of the Senior Center and Jefferson Park parking lot begins today (Monday). During construction there will be no access to the parking lot, including the section of the parking lot that services the park. Meal service and other programs at the Senior Center will remain open, however accessing the building will be different during construction.
During the parking lot construction, congregate dining hours will be 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Diners are asked to park either in the Life Church parking lot or on the street, being mindful not to block driveways, bus stops, or traffic. Access the dining room by walking through the park and entering the western side door by the Adult Day Center, or by walking up the sidewalk from Sprague St. and entering the dining room’s backdoor on the southern side of the building.
The drive-through meal pickup will remain Tuesdays only from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. The drive-thru line will follow the same route as always, but workers will hand out meals on Sprague Street. Do not turn into the parking lot.
Parking for Jefferson Park use will be along Malcolm Street. The $565,000 project was awarded to Premier Excavation, Inc. The project is being funded by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) and a community development block grant. Construction is scheduled to last through October.
