WALLA WALLA – Crews have begun surveying along West Poplar Street from South 14th Avenue to South Fifth Avenue. The surveying work, which is expected to continue through October 27, is being done in preparation for the Poplar Street reconstruction project scheduled for 2026.
No-parking signs have been placed in the areas where crews will be working weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parking restrictions will be lifted as work is completed. There will be no parking restrictions on weekdays after 6 p.m. or on the weekends. Electronic reader boards have been placed on both ends of the project, notifying drivers of the work and the restricted parking.
The estimated $12 million project will reconstruct Poplar Street from Fifth Avenue to 14th Avenue. The lane configuration will be modified to include a single vehicle lane for each direction of travel, as well as a center two-way left turn lane, and bike lanes. Parallel parking will also be maintained. Water and sewer lines will be replaced, and stormwater facilities will be improved.
