Painted Sky Center receives $500,000 in funding

JOHN DAY – Painted Sky Center for the Arts issued a press release, stating the center was selected by the Cultural Advocacy Coalition of Oregon to receive $500,000 toward the purchase of their building, located at 116 NW Bridge Street in John Day.

Painted Sky Center for the Arts (PSCA) is pleased to announce that the Oregon Legislature passed Senate Bill 5701 to appropriates funds to the Oregon Business Development Department for Oregon cultural organizations. PSCA was selected from the Cultural Advocacy Coalition of Oregon as one of the vetted capital projects to receive Cultural Resource Economic Funds. As a result of SB 5701 passing in this short session, PSCA will receive $500K towards the purchase of the building located at 116 NW Bridge Street in John Day. The total amount dedicated by the Oregon Legislature was $11. 8 million for arts and culture, with $5.9 million going to 13 out of 14 CREF projects.. 

Having a permanent facility dedicated to arts and culture in John Day will be a breakthrough in sustainability and access for arts education, performing, and cultural opportunities for residents of Grant County. PSCA is dedicated to making the new building a great community facility and 

meeting space that will be open to everyone. Located next to the Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site, this facility will provide year-round livability and economic benefits to the region. 

Receiving this funding is imperative to Painted Sky Center for the Arts and other like organizations across the state. We have worked very hard to advocate for arts and cultural funding, as it is critical to our economy. All of us at PSCA are incredibly grateful to our legislators, specifically Representative Owens, Senator Findley, and Representative Nosse, the Cultural Advocacy Coalition of Oregon, and project partners for taking on this immense effort for the arts and culture sector in Eastern Oregon.”—said Valerie Munyon, PSCA Executive Director.
