BAKER COUNTY – At around 10:25 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, multiple agencies responded to a vehicle fire along I-84 Westbound roughly 13 miles west of Huntington. The fire, which occurred near milepost 333, briefly shut down the highway westbound, though thankfully no injuries were reported.
The Oregon State Police (OSP) has since released additional information on the fire, confirming the cause as overheated breaks from a commercial motor vehicle. See a full summary provided by OSP below:
“OSP responded to a vehicle fire near mile post 333 1 84 West Bound, where a white 2007 refrigeration trailer hauled by a blue 2016 Volvo commercial motor vehicle caught on fire from locked up brakes and spread to the hillside. Fire crews were able to contain the fire. No injuries were reported. The transportation company sent their own tow from Anastasia Trans Incorporation to remove the trailer. Responding agencies include; OSP, Baker Rural Fire Department, Baker City Fire Department, Keating Fire Department, ODOT, and BLM.”
No charges were issued by OSP.
