Over $29,000 in heritage grants awarded to Wallowa County Nez Perce history projects

WALLOWA COUNTY – The Oregon Heritage Commission recently announced recipients of the 2025 Oregon Heritage Grants. In total, $378,971 was awarded to 31 organizations across the state, ranging from $1,656 to $20,000 per grant. In Wallowa County, the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture and Nez Perce Wallowa Homeland’s Interpretive Center were both approved for grants, totaling $29,070.
The Josephy Center received a grant worth $9,070 and provided a $11,100 match. The grant will, as written by the Oregon Heritage Commission, “provide and document a visit to Sis-nim-mux for Nez Perce community members exploring campsites, food, burial and vision quest sites.”
Nez Perce Wallowa Homeland received a $20,000 grant and provided a $21,500 match. The grant will, as written by the Oregon Heritage Commission, “Upgrade the NPWH Interpretive Center with archival storage, new signage, audio-linked QR codes, and website upgrades to allow global access to Nez Perce cultural resources in Wallowa.”
