UNION COUNTY – One week ago, the Union County Sheriff’s Office asked the community to show their support for Deputy Dan Johnson and his family during his ongoing battle with cancer. The Union County community has since gone above and beyond. In the week since the initial call for support, at least twenty-one thousand dollars has already been raised through various donations and fundraising efforts, and the amount is only climbing.
Among those to step up, Antlers Espresso donated 100% of all proceeds made on Tuesday, January 14. For those looking to show further support, the White Barn Estate is hosting a benefits event for Deputy Johnson and his family on Saturday, March 15. The event will run from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and feature a cocktail hour, auction, tri-tip dinner, live music, and more. Access to the event requires purchase of tickets in advance, which can be ordered online here.
Fundraising updates and links from the Union County Sheriff’s Office can be found on their Facebook page.
Monetary donations can also be dropped off at the front desk of the Union County Sheriff’s Office, 1109 K Ave., La Grande, Oregon.
For those unfamiliar with the situation, Deputy Johnson was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer known as Neuroendocrine Carcinoma in the summer of 2024. He is currently undergoing treatment, with his doctors remaining hopeful.
