MALHEUR COUNTY — The Oregon Department of Human Services has announced that households affected by recent storms or power outages in Malheur County, as well as in eight other counties, have an extended amount of time to report lost or spoiled food purchased using their SNAP benefits.
Households that lost food due to the outages on December 17th, 2025, have until January 16, 2026 to report those food losses and request replacement Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. Normally, it’s a 10-day window for folks to report food losses due to emergencies. Those requesting replacement benefits either call on the telephone, fill out and email a request form, or visit a local ODHS office.
ODHS reports, “Once approved, replacement benefits are added to the household’s existing Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. The maximum replacement amount is the cost of the food lost, not to exceed the household’s normal monthly SNAP benefit.”
