Otterstein of Cove is one of the first place winners in ODFW artwork

COVE – (Information provided by Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife) The winning artwork was selected for ODFW’s 2022 Habitat Conservation, Upland Game Bird and Waterfowl stamp art competitions.
Winning artwork will be the face of the 2022 collector stamps and other promotional items to benefit Oregon’s native wildlife and their habitats.
The artwork was judged at the ODFW’s Salem headquarters by independent judges and unfortunately not open to the public, however, the People’s Choice Award for 2022 is now open for online voting until Nov. 8.

2022 Collector Stamp Art Winners:
Waterfowl, first place, Northern Shoveler by Buck Spencer of Junction City, Ore.
Upland Game Bird, first place, Chukar by Debra Otterstein of Cove, Ore.
Habitat Conservation, first place, Long-billed Curlew by Kathy Peckham of Ridgway, Colo.
Spencer, Otterstein, and Peckham will receive a prize award of $2,000 for their winning artwork.
“We are excited that local artists won both the waterfowl and upland game bird contest,” said Kelly Walton, ODFW Assistant Game Bird Biologist. “This is the first Oregon stamp contest win for Debra Otterstein and Kathy Peckham, who have each been entering for several years. Spencer won the habitat conservation and upland stamp contests last year, so it is quite the accomplishment to say that he has now placed first in each of the contests. Although the number of entries was down slightly this year, we had many good entries that made for a tough choice for our panel of judges,” added Walton.
The Habitat Conservation Stamp program provides a way for all Oregonians to give financial support for conserving our state’s most imperiled fish, wildlife and their habitats. Collector’s stamps and limited-edition art prints are available for purchase at license sales agents or online.
Available online from Duck Pond Cellars and in their tasting room, is their Conservation Cuvee – Lot 9 featuring the 2021 winning Habitat Conservation Stamp artwork of Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep by Buck Spencer of Junction City, Ore.
Duck Pond donates $5 from the sale of each bottle to ODFW’s Conservation Program which is used to restore habitats and benefit species of greatest conservation need in Oregon.
The sale of Upland Game Bird and Waterfowl Stamps support game bird research, surveys, habitat improvement and conservation projects. A suite of benefits from habitat work in upland and wetland areas.
Non-hunters can support these programs by purchasing collector stamps and prints. Rules for entering the 2023 contests will be announced soon.
