OTEC scam calls increase in John Day area

JOHN DAY – According to Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative Communications Manager Joseph Hathaway, scam calls are increasing in the John Day area with the scammers claiming to be from OTEC and demanding immediate payment. Hathaway said you should immediately recognize the call as a red flag:

“We will never demand immediate payment by phone. If your account is past due, we may use an automated phone system to contact you, but the only message that we’ll deliver is simply asking you to call our office.

Keep our phone number handy and if you get a call from someone claiming to be from OTEC and they threaten or demand that you make immediate payment, hang up and call our office.”
