BAKER CITY – Oregon Trail Electric Coop (OTEC) along with the Baker City Fire Department teamed up late last week to hold a Career and Safety Day event for sixth graders at South Baker Intermediate School.
According to OTEC this event was held in the parking lot of the Baker City Christian Church.
OTEC had two “stations” set up, one station where kids learned about how a line truck works and what it takes to become a lineman. The other was an electrified “safety table” run by OTEC where kids learned about the dangers of electricity and how to stay safe.
The Baker City Fire Department also taught kids about safety, what it takes to be a firefighter and paramedic, and also let kids tour a fire truck and ambulance.
OTEC hopes to hold similar events in John Day and Burns once the school year begins again in the fall.
