JOHN DAY – Oregon State Police Trooper Parker James was in KJDY Studios last month, along with School Safety and Prevention Specialist Gordon Larson to discuss their upcoming classes in Monument and John Day called “Cyber Safety 101.”

Trooper James said the number of children who view explicit material online is alarming:

“Kids between eight and sixteen years old; ninety percent of those children have viewed or continuously view pornography online. So, we developed this class, and we go over a lot of things. I talk mostly on the side of online child predators, as well as some of that pornography side, child sexual abuse, things like that.

These cases, I mean, they are very common. In the last ten years child exploitation cases have exploded. They are over two hundred percent increased from ten years ago.”

Their class in Monument for the community will be held November 13th at 5:30 p.m. at Monument School. Another class will be held at Grant Union High School on December 5th, beginning at 6 p.m.
