BAKER COUNTY โ On Friday, January 31st, 2025, a commercial motor vehicle crash along I-84 Eastbound resulted in a multi-hour closure of the eastbound lanes, lasting from approximately 9:40 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. that afternoon. The initial crash occurred at around 9:00 a.m. near milepost 332, with the eastbound lanes eventually closing completely between La Grande and Ontario. Some diesel was spilled on the roadway during the crash, which was cleaned up throughout the closure by a hazmat team.
In the time since, the Oregon State Police has released some additional information, with the cause of the wreck being partially due to icy conditions. The full description of the crash, as released in a recent OSP press log, is as follows:
โThe Oregon State Police responded to a single CMV jackknife crash near milepost 332 on Interstate 84 eastbound. The CMV was attempting to negotiate a curve when it lost control on the icy roadway. The CMV jackknifed and crashed into an ODOT guardrail. No injuries were reported by the driver. The driver was warned for failing to drive within the lane of travel. The CMV was removed by Blue Mountain Towing. The hazmat released from the tractor during the crash was cleaned up by Steve Rich Environmental.โ
