NORTHEAST OREGON — Oregon State Police is looking for 5th-graders to contribute original artwork in the annual Missing Children’s Poster Contest under the theme of “Bring Our Missing Children Home.”

The deadline for submissions is set for February 20.

This national contest is in its 41st year and serves as a platform to raise awareness about safety issues among students, teachers, and parents/guardians. Encouraging artistic expression, the competition not only fosters creativity but also educates the community on the importance of child safety.

The winning entry from Oregon will have the honor of representing the state in the national contest. Notably, the 2020 national poster contest was won by a participant from Oregon.

The Missing Children’s Day Poster Contest plays a crucial role in engaging schools, law enforcement, and various community organizations in conversations about child safety. Open to all 5th-grade students, the competition offers a unique opportunity for children to express themselves artistically while contributing to a vital cause.

In Oregon, a single winning poster is selected each year, and the victorious class is rewarded with a celebratory pizza party and an award ceremony.

National Missing Children’s Day, an annual event observed on May 25th, aligns with National Missing Children’s Awareness Day. This day was proclaimed by President Reagan in 1983 in memory of Etan Patz, a 6-year-old boy who went missing from a New York City street corner on May 25, 1979.

For 5th-grade teachers eager to involve their classes in this impactful contest, further information can be obtained by contacting 503-934-0188 or by clicking here.
