OSP elk decoy leads to citations in Beulah Unit

JOHN DAY – The use of an Oregon State Police bull elk decoy led to the citation of five individuals and the issuance of seven warnings in the Beulah hunting unit. Find information from the OSP below:

Troopers braved frigid temperatures for multiple hours on two days conducting wildlife enforcement decoy operations in the snow which resulted in successfully identifying unlawful hunting activity: John Day Fish and Wildlife Troopers received a report from ODFW of subjects in the Beulah Unit hunting without valid tags. A bull decoy operation was conducted in the area which resulted in the issuance of five citations and seven warnings. Offenses included Hunting Without Controlled Unit Tag, No Valid Big Game Tag, Aiding in Wildlife Offense, Hunting Prohibited Area, and Hunting with Aid of Motor Vehicle. One group was educated on the regulations regarding a disability permit.
