WALLA WALLA – A Walla Walla woman pled guilty late last week to an amended charge of second-degree murder in the 2017 shooting death of her fiancé, Daniel E. Cason. By entering the plea, Shyla A. Osborne’s jury trial scheduled for June 21 has been removed from the court calendar.
Osborne, 33, was charged with the killing of Cason, 31, on August 29, 2017, in the couple’s home on the 500 block of East Cherry Street.
Cason died after receiving three gunshots to the back-right side of his head. However, Osborne was not charged until October 5, 2018, as prosecutors had to wait until results were returned from the state crime lab.
According to court documents, the couple reportedly argued the day before over financial matters and other issues which escalated into a physical confrontation. The following day, the couple got into another argument, which led to a struggle involving a gun which Osborne hid in her bra. That struggle ended with the fatal shooting.
Walla Walla County Prosecuting Attorney Jim Nagle said Osborne’s sentencing hearing will not be set until a presentence investigation and report from the Washington State Department of Corrections is completed.
