WILSONVILLE – The Oregon School Activities Association Classification and Redistricting Committee has now had three meetings as it works on the athletic conferences for students beginning in 2022 and lasting until 2026.

The meetings are all carried on YouTube, and InterMountain Education Service District Superintendent Mark Mulvihill said it’s an interesting process to follow.

“You listen to a perspective that traveling across Salem is a long road trip,” he said. “Then, Pendleton’s got to go to Bend. What about Morrow County? They’ve been going to Burns since 1978. It’s a fascinating discussion.”

Right now, the committee is considering its fifth draft proposal. In it, Pendleton would move down to the 4A Greater Oregon league to compete against Baker, La Grande, and Ontario. The 3A Eastern Oregon League would include Burns, McLoughlin, Nyssa, Riverside, Umatilla, and Vale.

The 2A Blue Mountain Conference would include Enterprise, Grant Union, Heppner, Irrigon, Stanfield, and Weston McEwen. Pilot Rock would be in the 1A Old Oregon League which would also include Cove, Elgin, Griswold, Imbler, Joseph, Nixyaawii, Pine Eagle, Powder Valley, Union and Wallowa.  Also in 1A, Arlington, Condon, and Ione would be among the 17 teams in the Big Sky League; and Ukiah would be among the 12 teams in the High Desert League.

The next meeting of the committee will be on Monday, Nov. 1 at the Holiday Inn Express in Wilsonville. Those who wish to submit written suggestions and proposals may email them to bradg@osaa.org.
