Oregon Trail Interpretive Center Seeking Applicants for Teacher on the Public Lands Internship

LA GRANDE – (Release from the Bureau of Land Management) The Teachers on the Public Lands (TPL) program provides professional development experiences for local K-12 teachers by hiring them as teacher “interns” at bureau of land management (BLM) sites during their summer break.

Work to Be Performed:

  • Develop model/template for NHOTIC Lesson Plans.
  • Create a training to assist NHOTIC Park Rangers in creating Lesson Plans.
  • Assist with improving NHOTIC field trip experiences.
  • Learn and experience the day-to-day duties of BLM employees. Gain firsthand knowledge of the BLM’s multiple-use management of public lands through mentoring and shadowing opportunities provided by BLM staff.
  • Gain Knowledge and skills in conservation stewardship, instruction in outdoor settings, engaging youth and families to outdoor recreation, and BLM history and multiple-use management principles.
  • Participate in on-line professional development offered by the University of Colorado Dener to expand their understanding of the BLM and place-based learning. After completing the course, teachers will receive .0 graduate credits and a $3,000 professional development stipend.

Length of Commitment:

TPL intern will commit to a minimum of 160 hours of service between May and August 202ϯ.

Intern must complete the full internship and online professional course to receive graduate

credits and stipend.

Location:

TPL Intern will work at the interpretive Center, 22267 Oregon Hwy 86, Baker City, Ore. There will be some opportunities for teleworking as well.
