SALEM – The Oregon State Senate is unanimous. The T-bone should be Oregon’s official steak. The Senate passed that proclamation last week and it’s now being considered by the House of Representatives.

The Oregon CattleWomen were a big force for the recognition, and Sen. Todd Nash (R-Enterprise) added his support. Nash owns a small cattle ranch in Wallowa County.

When Nash stood up to speak in favor of the T-bone, he used a visual aid. He was wearing a shirt featuring the steak. To prove it was a bipartisan issue, the shirt was given to Nash by Senate President Rob Wagner, a Democrat from Lake Oswego.

Gabrielle Homer, president-elect of Oregon CattleWomen, was quoted in Portland media as saying the T-bone has two sides to it, and referred to the bone as the Cascade Mountains. She also said it was a natural choice for the Legislature, since the state vegetable is a potato.
