PENDLETON – The InterMountain Education Service District (IMESD) is once again making the Oregon Department of Education sit up and take notice. IMESD’s online academy is unique because it allows students to be enrolled in their local school districts.
“The state has caught wind of our program,” IMESD Superintendent Mark Mulvihill said. “They really like the basic fundamentals, where the students stay virtually in their own communities, in their own districts.”
Mulvihill said the state is providing the district “a pretty large grant” for the IMESD Virtual Learning Academy to be scaled up and used across the state.
The academy serves K-12 students in Eastern Oregon. Students take online coursework while having access to local district and school resources, services, and extracurricular activities.
