SALEM – Oregon State Police Superintendent Travis Hampton has appointed Mariana Rivas-Temple to serve as acting Oregon State Fire Marshal. Fire Marshal Jim Walker has been placed on paid administrative leave.

“Mariana is assuming this position as Oregon is in an unprecedented crisis which demands and urgent response,” Hampton wrote in a prepared release. “This response and the circumstances necessitated a leadership change. I have the absolute confidence in Mariana to lead OSFM operations through this critical time.”

Hampton said Ruiz-Temple is tested, trusted and respected with aptitude in both field operations and administration.

The state has declined to comment on Walker being placed on leave other than to say it is a personnel investigation.
