Oregon fire resources respond to Kirby Creek Fire near Riggins

BAKER CITY โ€“ (Release from the U.S. Forest Service) Resources from Oregon and Idaho including crews, smokejumpers and rappelers are actively suppressing the estimated 200 acre Kirby Fire, caused by lightning. This fire was reported at 3:30 pm on July 9, 2025. The fire is located near Forest Service Road 2062 and Sumac Gulch, approximately 10 miles NW of Riggins, ID within the Hells Canyon Recreation Area.

The Wallowa-Whitman National Forest had four fires including the Kirby fire, as a result of lighting from the storms that passed through the area. Three other fires were contained at less than .25 acres.
