Oregon Department of Forestry, Timber Brand Renewal

The Oregon Department of Forestry wants to remind timber operators that their state-registered log brands must be renewed between Oct. 18 and Dec. 31, 2021.

Log brands are used to identify forest products. Forest products must be impressed with a registered log brand design when being transported on public highways of Oregon. There are currently over 3,500 registered log brand owners with approximately 10,000 log brands.

There is a fee to register a new brand, to renew a brand, to transfer brand ownership, and to change the registered owner’s name. Log brands are renewed every five years. All brands are renewed at the same time regardless of the original registration date. Currently, registered brands are valid through Dec. 31, 2021.

At the time of registration a brand is assigned a registration number. This number remains in effect for the life of the brand. The brand will remain current when renewed every five years by the owner in accordance with ORS 532.100. Once a brand has lapsed for one year, it is considered to be abandoned. Should the same diagram be registered at a later date, it is treated as a new application and assigned a new number.
