EASTERN OREGON — With spring break this week, the Oregon Department of Emergency Management is reminding travelers to plan ahead and be prepared for any adventure or weather conditions they may encounter.
In a recent Facebook post, the department emphasized the importance of readiness, whether traveling for a day or a week. The agency’s message explains several key steps to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience:
Check Weather and Road Conditions: Travelers are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and road conditions by visiting Tripcheck.com or calling 511.
Carry Maps: Given that cell phone service may be unreliable in certain areas and GPS navigation may not always be dependable, it’s recommended to carry physical maps.
Plan for Crowded Sites: Popular destinations may experience high traffic or limited access. Having alternative plans in place can help mitigate any disruptions.
Pack Appropriately: Ensure you have the necessary supplies and equipment, including weather-appropriate clothing, food, water, and safety gear.
Vehicle Preparedness: Don’t forget to pack an emergency kit and a cell phone charger for your vehicle.
Travel with Companions: It’s advisable to travel with a companion whenever possible. Additionally, inform someone trustworthy about your travel plans and expected return time.
By following these guidelines, travelers can better prepare themselves for a smooth and enjoyable spring break experience while ensuring their safety and well-being.
