UMATILLA COUNTY – The Oregon State Marine Board, 31 sheriff’s offices, and the Oregon State Police will be looking for expired boat registrations as part of Operation Ship Shape. Umatilla County Sheriff Terry Rowan says his marine division will be out at the busier boat launch areas offering inspections.
“When they do them, they put a 2024 sticker on the boat where it’s visible,” he said.
Any boat powered by a motor (even an electric one) and all sailboats 12 feet and longer must be registered when on the water, even if they are docked or moored. Motorboat registrations are valid for two calendar years and expire on Dec. 31 of the second year.
The cost for registration is $5.95 per foot rounded up, plus $5. Boaters can also renew their registration online through the Boat Oregon Store. People who need more information about registering a boat or obtaining a waterway access permit can call the marine board at 503-378-8587.
