Oregon and Washington Report New Measles Cases

OLYMPIA/PORTLAND – A new measles case has been identified in Clackamas County, Oregon, while the state of Washington has confirmed its first outbreak of the disease since 2023.

A release from the Washington State Department of Health says the outbreak happened in Snohomish County linked to a family from South Carolina who visited multiple locations in King and Snohomish Counties from Dec. 27 to Jan. 1, with three unvaccinated children age 23 months to 9 years testing positive. Additional secondary cases are possible through Feb. 2. Locations of potential exposure to the public include:

  • Jan. 9, 8:30 AM to 5:15 PM: Pathfinder Kindergarten Center (Mukilteo School District), 11401 Beverly Park Rd, Everett
  • Jan. 9, 8:30 AM to 5:15 PM: Serene Lake Elementary School (Mukilteo School District), 4709 Picnic Point Rd, Edmonds
  • Jan 13, 1:10 PM to 3:10 PM: Swedish Mill Creek Campus medical facility, 13020 Meridian Ave. S., Everett

There was also a confirmed case involving a Central Washington University student in Kittitas County that was associated with travel to South Carolina who was infectious from Jan. 8 through Jan. 22. Locations of potential exposure to the public include:

  • Jan 8, 8:30am-2:00 pm: CWU Dining Lion Rock dining station in the Student Union & Recreation Center (SURC), 1007 N Chestnut St, Ellensburg
  • Jan 8, 3:00-8:30pm: CWU Dining Lion Rock dining station in the SURC, 1007 N Chestnut St, Ellensburg
  • Jan 8, 1:00-4:50 pm: International Aviation Management, Samuelson Building, 111, Ellensburg
  • Jan 9, 12:08pm to 2:08 pm: CWU flight training center, 1101 W Bowers Rd, Ellensburg
  • Jan 9, 2:30pm to 4:30 pm: CWU flight training center, 1101 W Bowers Rd, Ellensburg

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) confirmed a case in Clackamas County where the person is unvaccinated. It is not known if there person traveled outside of the state or if it’s connected to a case confirmed in Linn County on Jan. 10.
