LA GRANDE – While most of Oregon’s state routes are open in Eastern Oregon, Highway 334 west of Athena remains closed. The Oregon Department of Transportation estimates it will remain closed for the next few days.
Crews are working to remove the six-foot-tall snow drifts with a snow blower and other equipment, but it’s a slow process. ODOT said that while some progress was made Tuesday, crews will continue to work over the next few days.
OR 334 runs from OR 37 near Myrick to OR 11 near Athena. It is known as the Athena-Holdman Highway. It runs east to west for 18.12 miles, entirely within Umatilla County.
ODOT cautions that sections of several other routes have fresh or packed snow. Motorists should expect continuing winter conditions throughout Eastern Oregon and be prepared for long delays which can happen at any time.
