OR Veterans Education Bridge Grant money doubles

SALEM – The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs has doubled the amount of funding available per applicant for its Veterans Educational Bridge Grant (VEBG) program. The original lifetime maximum grant was $5,000, but the Oregon Legislature has increased that to $10,000.
In addition the legislature expanded eligibility to include veterans experiencing financial hardships that could endanger their ability to remain enrolled in a degree, apprenticeship, or training program. Eligibility was previously limited to veterans who could not complete their programs due to the unavailability of required courses or training hours, or because of outstanding student debt.
The grants are available to Oregon resident veterans enrolled in eligible education and training programs in the state. That includes programs approved for GI Bill ® benefits, licensed private career schools, registered apprenticeships, and qualifying public employer on-the-job training programs.
