SALEM – Oregon Housing and Community Services will receive more than $11 million in federal funding to increase energy efficiency in affordable housing. It is the largest climate pollution reduction grant Oregon has ever received according to Executive Director Andrea Bell.

The Multifamily Energy Program known as OR-MEP allocates funding to owners and developers of OCHS-funded affordable housing. It includes such projects as installing energy-efficient heat pumps, water heaters, insulation, windows, and interior lighting.

“Affordable housing isn’t helpful for residents if utility bills are high,” Home First Development CEO Ben Pray said. “At all of our properties, we look to decrease our residents’ energy burden while lowering their carbon footprint.”

Pray’s company owns The Lawrence in Portland. It was one of the first such projects to benefit from the funding. The application deadline for the grant money is Aug. 30. More information is available at https://oregonmultifamilyenergy.com/.
